I updated Firefox and now I am unable to open it from a shortcut icon on the desktop. Decided to uninstall and reinstall. Control Panel Add or Remove will not permit me to remove Firefox. Any ideas how to sort this out please. Thanks

You could right click on the shortcut and check its properties. See if it still "points to" the latest Firefox .exe file.
Try placing a new shortcut on your desktop and then putting the old one into the recycle bin.

Start > Programs > Mozilla Firefox (Right Click) > Create Shortcut.

Hi OG and Hans. Thanks for replying.

Hav riht clicked on icon and properties and it still points to Firefox.exe but that is as far as I can get.

Tried your suggestioin Hans - can create new icons but they will not open.

Neither with my Internet icon function to open Firefox.

As I said earlier, in Control Panel, using Add or Remove will not remove Firefox.

Have run AVG and Malwarebytes but nothing uncovered.

If I attempt to download and install Firefox will it overwrite the current version on my PC? Unfortunately I cannot recall which Adds-Ons I was using with Firefox.

Not sure which way to go from here . . .

Thanks again

In an effort to re-install Firefox, I now have a message saying Firefox must be closed to proceed with the installation. Please close Firefox to continue.

Erm Firefox is not open; I cannot open it!
Try booting your pc into 'safe mode' and uninstall FF from there. Restart your pc and then reinstall FF.
Turn the computer off and turn it back on again :-)
I sometimes get that Firefox is already open message. I found i can close it in task manager under processes instead of applications.

The problem occurred while trying to update to Firefox 28 - it hung up.

So now I have still got version 27 and all is well.
Glad you got it sorted :)
I would do as suggested by ummmm and then see what is the position.

If your Firefox is then still Not working, then download a new copy which will overlay the faulty one which you appear to have installed.

Make sure it is the UK version from the following official site :-

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Hans.

Sorry, I was interrupted when I was Typing my last response above. Hence my being behind in matters.

If you are now back with FF27 then do a safe up-date as follows :-

Click open the 'Help' section in Firefox then 'About Firefox' and up-date from there

Hans.

Thank you Hans.

However, clicking open the 'Help' section in Firefox then 'About Firefox' and up-date from there was the start of my problem. Because I had Firefox running, it could not update properly.
Task manager as mentioned will allow you to force close firefox to allow install.
