I'm using Safari browser on a Mac. When I type www.google.com in the address bar and hit enter, it switches to www.google.hu. Why?

I am in the UK. I think that normally it does switch to google.co.uk but not today! How could my location be set to Hungary and how can I switch it back to UK?

Go to settings - General - International - Region - UK

Voila!

In Xp it's "Start/Control Panel/Region and language options/ and at the bottom of the regional options page change to UK and hit Apply.

OK. Region is already set to UK, not Hungary. I'm confused! Think I'll go to bed and see ifi it's fixed in the morning. Thanks, but goodnight! (Early start tomorrow!)

Try this. Go into your browser and use Settings to set google.co.uk as your home page or your default search tool

I have Google set as my default search engine already, but all results come back from www.google.hu...and of course a lot of it is in Hungarian!

try typing www.google.co.uk into the address bar, instead of the .com version

Tried that, and it stays as google.co.uk.

Good, but I want to know why google.com switches to google.hu and not google.co.uk.

I am in the UK, not in Hungary!

Check where Google's servers think you are. (If your internet traffic is being routed via a proxy server your IP address might show up as being in Hungary). Click here to find out:

Open Safari. Click on Preferences. Then General. Then type in the Google website address www.google.com where it says home page.
