Does anyone know how to download my backup onto a nw phone? I just have received my new iPhone 6, which didn't have the largest IOS, so I had to download that first and now I don't know how to get everything off my iCloud

In your your header you say "which didn't have the largest IOS," do you mean latest iOS?

I think you should start again...Go to Settings/General/Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings. You will then go through the setup screens as you did when the phone was new. When given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup. Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.
