//Some routers close down if unrecognised password is attempted repeatedly.//
Ostensibly protective behaviour but, in fact, means the owner can fall victim to vexatious attacks; possibly far more remote than a neighbour within wireless range. Your online multiplayer game could be just reaching a thrilling stage when they trace your IP and knobble your router.
In terms of wireless router security, a Netgear device can be configured to only accept connections from an "access list" of the MAC addresses of each phone, computer, TV and even domestic appliances, these days.
It is a bit of a 'techie' solution and finding the MAC address of each device would be a task in itself, especially if the device label is hidden because it has been installed in a wall, or a fitted kitchen but it does protect against "drive by" surfing.
