who exactly issued this warning? You should back your files up anyway - you certainly could lose everything if your computer crashed. Buy an external hard drive, plug it in, copy your files over to it, then unplug it and put it away somewhere safe. Repeat as necessary. You do also need some sort of computer security. Your system probably has a firewall already....

You do also need some sort of computer security. Your system probably has a firewall already. In addition you could sign up for a free antivirus programe like Avast and probably Malwarebytes as well (also free, and you should run a scan with it every week or two). But you don't need to enter paid contracts; free programmes are just as good.
If the message appeared as a pop-up on your computer you've got malware!

Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to get rid of it:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/
(NB: At the end of the installation process you'll be offered a free trial of the Premium version. Make sure that you remove the tick against that option before proceeding!)
Sounds like a scam just to get your bank details.
Whilst others are most certainly correct, it being malware and trying to scam you; it's fair to say you usually get better advice if you give better details. "they say", with no explanation of who and how, makes life difficult for those wishing to help.
