Yahoo Email Hacked

A friend has received an email purporting to come from me, suggesting my account has been hacked. So I have just changed my password as a first step and then looked in "Recent Activity". This showed the last 30 days and all looks fine, except it showed that I was using Firefox browser. I used to use Firefox until recently, but now use Opera. It waas Opera I was using to access yahoo and change my password etc. Why would it show I'd used Firefox for today's session and not Opera?

I guess I'll be getting email from others in my address book, saying they've received a dodgy email too. The last time this happened I wanted to send an email to all my contacts to explain the dogy email was spam, but having added all the email addresses it rejected the email, saying there were too many address. Does anyone know what the yahoo address limit is for sending an email. I've tried to find this on yahoo help, but can't see anything.
Thanks to all.

Yahoo's answer is either "Tough, we're not going to tell you" https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN3383.html or "100" https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN17518.html depending upon where you look on their website. That happened to me a few days ago...the emails had friends names in Sent field, but Yahoo had put them In Spam. I opened one of them + saw there was a link to click on. Of course, I didn't.

or "100"

depending upon where you look on their website.

Remember that if someone has genuinely managed to hack into your account, changing your password won't necessarily help. If they've harvested your contacts list they can continue sending mail to all of those people, from a completely different server, still making it look as if it's come from your Yahoo account.

Perhaps it's time to get yourself a decent email service (which definitely rules out both Yahoo and Hotmail/Outlook, which many people regard as totally appalling services).

Many ABers, including myself, use the excellent GMX. (You needn't worry about losing any mail sent to your Yahoo address. You can configure GMX's 'mail collector' facility to forward it all to your new account):

So, in a nutshell countrykid, just ignore everything I said, and listen to Chris,.he is expert, but I can only add that I've had Yahoo email since 2003 with no problems ;)

Many thanks, I'll take a good look at that website for a new email account. Will it be possible to transfer emails that are saved in folders etc. Just going out now, so will check email later.
Thanks again
Run Norton Power Eraser - its free - just to make sure you are clean now.

Thanks to Buenchico's suggestion, I now have a gmx email address. The site looks great. I now could do with any advice on how to transfer my yahoo address book over to gmx, and also is there a way to transfer complete folders of emails, keeping the folder name intact?
(Chris) I would be interested to know why people consider Yahoo Mail appalling - I've used it for years without any problems.
Question Author
Just to say I have now found the way to transfer my yahoo contacts into gmx. From a Google search I don't think you can transfer folders of emails, so I'll need to select a folder to show the emails, click to tick all and the move them yo my inbox. I think gmx can then transfer the inbox - well I'll give that a try - unless anybody knows another way
Question Author
Just have to say I love having gmx as my email account. So much better than yahoo, and with none of the glitches I kept getting with that.

Just one thing I'd like to ask buenchico - the "window" area that displays an email is rather narrow - only about 2 inches of the email is visible. I'd much rather be able to see more - rather than having an advert running along the bottom section. Is it possible to increase the displayed area for emails. I appreciate it is adverts that helps keep sites free to use. Thanks
