Of late I've noticed two things have started occurring on YouTube which I'd like to stop.

a) Many videos have started defaulting to putting up undesired subtitles. I see no switch to prevent them.
b) If I return to a tab showing a YouTube webpage the video starts immediately (and on mute).

Does anyone know how to stop it triggering either, or preferably both the above bugs ?

TIA

Right click on your Youtube a/c, Select 'settings' then 'Playback and Performance' remove the ticks from 'Captions and Subtitles' Close your browser and them restart it and go back into Youtube

Neither want nor have an account with them. I simply visit the site. But thanks for the suggestion. Worst comes to worst I may be forced to enrol.
If you've got a Gmail a/c you can use that to sign in to Youtube. Have got a couple of gmail accounts and when the dross gets excessive just stop using them and get another ☺☺☺
I use youtube on my 'phone and it's been a while since I used my laptop so the options may be different.

If you touch the screen where the video is playing, three vertical dots should appear. Click on them and several options appear, one of which is "captions" which you can turn on or off.

Now-a-days touching the screen just takes mute off: touching again stops the video that ought not have started. There are 3 dots permanently above the screen but settings are just basic account, and history/privacy. Playback just quality and speed. Nothing useful for this, unfortunately.

I do have a gmail account, only vecause I was seemingly forced into it years ago when it seemed necessary to reach the Play Store, but I try not to use it as it wasn't desired at the time; and I don't need things involving me linked together in external databases: l believe in privacy. That may be an alternative though, thanks.
I have Youtube working on my PC & on a second bedroom TV, but two days ago it stopped working on my main panasonic viera TV. I've tried to remove it from the apps, in order to re-install it but it won't remove, when I click on 'cancel' it stays on. Any ideas, Alice (or anyone)?
