 What they have stopped offering is a paid for add on. Cloud storage is fine, you just have to know what you are buying / signing up for, as with any purchase.

I'm not sure how the goverment affecting this option makes the whole business a bad idea.

It shows you think things are secure, they may not be a while later. It's was always a risk despite assurances, and here we see it in action.
