We went through this last year and found that the previous ISP would continue to provide e-mail for a minimum charge ($5 per month here in the U.S.). I didn't want the hassle of re-distributing a new address either...
When I changed ISP I prepared for it by getting web based email addresses in advance - gmail.

I alerted everybody of the new email addresses before the change, and of course I have been able to keep them.

It means there will no hassle if I change ISP again in the future.
