One of my friends lives in the country and has a problem with her BT landline. How can she access the internet through her mobile?

A Vodafone 3G card will work at almost 7 times the speed of a PSTN (Dial up connection).

But check coverage in your friend's area.
In areas where there is no 3G coverage, the card conects using GPRS which is somewhat slower.
