Broadband
Has anyone had the experience of changing their broadband provider please? I've been with Wanadoo (Orange) for about 18 months, so the initial 12 months contract period is well past. I'm hoping it's a fairly simple process, but there are so many on-line reference to read it's quite overwhelming. Thanks for any info.

Toucan provided mymac code in about 4 days and the switch happened overnight without my knowledge. I might also add that the switch occured before Orange sent me a livebox (modem) but luckily I knew the settings for my router so didn't cause a problem at all.
Don't go to Toucan whatever you do is my best advice and from my experience with Orange so far I'd think about stopping with them. Ask them for a livebox or you'll leave and I'll bet they'll give you one. you then get completely free landline calls to any 01 or 02 number anytime and free to Orange mobiles if you have a contract orange phone.
No, I don't work for Orange, just fairly impressed with the service so far.

Thank you for your thoughts about this. I run a local Neighbourhood Watch by email scheme that involves sending out about 75 emails at a time, maybe 2 or 3 times a week . Orange's automatic anti-spam system thinks I'm a spammer and stopped delivering my emails - it says there are too many recipients. This means using dial-up with another ISP at extra cost when I'm already paying Orange 17.99 a month for broadband. I've nothing against Orange except that it's simply not serving my purpose. I'll wait a while longer but thanks for your reply.

I suggest you start by contacting your local police who should have someone, maybe a crime prevention officer, who would be glad to advise. I receive info. from police and Trading Standards for circulation, but building up a circle of email contacts is a personal endeavour. To get back to the original 'thread' (or Editor won't be very pleased!) I've telephoned Orange technical support who tell me I should be able to send out emails in batches of 20, although their website says less than 90 should be OK. Trial and error will tell.

well Mattk, maybe it should, but in reality it doesn't happen. Some providers won't give you one at all, according to watchdog the other night, you won't get one from Sky without going to court.
Coldicote, just a thought, I remeber seeing your question earlier about being recognised as a spammer. Why not set up a gmail address and use that one to send out your mail. You get a free smtp server with gmail so I don't see why this wouldn't work for you.
Alternatively I suppose you could use Neighbourhood Watch funds to set up your own domain and then you'd have complete control over everything. Your domain could be alog the lines of "AccaciaAvenue.com" or similar perhaps

They have to provide a MAC code within a certain amount of days now. Think its a new law or something.
Go to www.ofcom.org.uk
which is a regulator to see info.
Anyway.... Dont go to TALKTALK. We were with them 9 months and only got 2 month of internet service. They wouldnt let us cancel. Our phone bills to their technical support were over 30 quid a month and it still never got mended. I could go on forever but ill only get angry!!
