Is it possible to run 2 pc's from the same broadband account?
I currently have my pc and i'm on broadband, but we want to get a second pc for family use. Would it be possible to run this 2nd pc from the same internet connection or do i have to take out a second subscription. If it is possible what equiptment do i require?
YES you but you'll need a router. if you want to run either PC without the other then ideally you need a modem/router and if you wish to avoid cables joining them together then a wireless modem router whichsolves all issues in one.
if your PC's are not wireless you can add a wireless card but easiest option is just buy wireless USB dongles, install the software that comes with them and you're away.
You can then have either PC switched on or off without affecting the other. When you've got your router simply google for the routewr settings for your ISP broadband provider though most UK ones have the same settings anyway. All you'll need are your broadband username and password and you'll have an always on connection for either PC to use.
If you are thinking about buying the second PC at the moment I'd strongly recommend avoiding one with vista installed. However, try getting one with a wireless connection built in, most do nowadays. Then all you'll need to buy is your wireless router and 1 dongle for your old PC. Argos were doing a good offer with a D-Link router that came with a free dongle for about 40-50. The dongles on their own can be 25 or so, so this seems a fairly good offer
