Anyone know if it is possible to force someone to remove offensive materials/websites?
The folowing is just a FOUL site; I came across it by accident. I feel so angry I am prepared to spend time getting it removed if I can, even though I have never been to Lyneham. Any ideas please?

PLEASE BE WARNED, IT IS FOUL.

This is the AB Ed...Sorry the link had to be removed as much as I agree the site in question should be banned asap we can't leave a link to it on the site.

I haven't opened the link so have no idea what it contains.

If it is ILLEGAL rather than just offensive to you, report it here:

http://www.met.police.uk/computercrime/

It may be the wrong place to report it - but if it is illegal they will know what to do with it.

I am against censorship on the web - what offends one will be reasonable to another.

Thanks Ethel. I agree with your views on censorship but the site goes beyond anything anyone could consider reasonable. It is just gratuitous filth and insults.

Thanks
this url is hosted by Zynet

see here: http://samspade.org/whois/lynehamvillage.co.uk

report abuses to : [email protected]

There are however an awful lot of foul websites out there I don't see why you object to this one in particular zynet are likely to ask you the same question of course

Thanks. The link is very useful.
will check this site out at home and see what the panic is
hmmm
why would you post the link if you dont want people to visit it ?

Interesting point. I could have asked the question without. My question was genuine. Hopefully the site will close soon.
It certainly is FOUL - why do people make up these sites (rhetorical?).

Wish you all the best in getting it BANNED.
From a quick scan, I don't think anything is bad enough to warrant any action. Doesn't serve as a good advertisement for the village though, or the parish councilors. You may have an angle with the data protection rights but i doubt it. Might be worth looking past the smut and seeing what the disaffected youth are actually saying.
P.S. posting the address on the internet will just make more people look at the site thus bumping up the advertisement revenues for those running it (unless that is your game - it made me look).
Question Author
It wasn't my intention to persuade people to look to boost ad revenue (hadn't even crossed my mind that would happen). Clearly it would have been better if I had not included the address.

I don't feel sympathetic enough in this case to worry about disaffected youth. In any case, the site owner is, I think, an adult and old enough to be held responsible for his own actions.
I think you're stuffed then, if this chap owns the rights to the site can't see a reason for him changing it. I get the impression you have an interest in the village. I'd look at launching www.visitlyneham.co.uk or something similar then get a link to the page in wikipedia, that way you will have a level of control. Have you tried speaking to the site?
Question Author
No, I haver no personal interest; I came across the site when I saw Lyneham on TV news (coffins from Iraq); just wondered where it was. Zytec say they will act. Still waiting for them. Followed up Ethel's suggestion and contacted Met. Pol. All I can do now is wait. I'm surprised at some responses. Is it so common that many people are inured to it?
God yes, then I have lived on the dutch border for several years and consider myself open minded. The pictures on that site are very tame (though not pleasant) and could be found easily using google. there is a shock value but thats it. I admit though that i don't have any children, though if I did I would ensure content is filtered.
CovKid, let it go mate. I agree the site is tasteless and a waste of time but there are far worse sites out there that require more immediate police action (child porn etc) and time than the site you mention.
