Hello on the back of the cable set on box ther is an Ethnet R45 socket whats it used for?

To connect your pc to broadband internet.
There is 2 ways of connecting your PC to the internet with Virgin Media (TeleWest). One is through a direct connection to the out side line. THe other is through the top box.

The main difference is that the topbox connection method of connecitng to the internet is alot slower than the direct connection.

I wonder why an RJ45 socket is provided on the set-top box if it is a lot slower.
