I have a new computer and plan to transfer everything on my present hard drive to the new hard drive. Does this mean that all my ISP settings will be carried over as well, and that I can then continue with e-mails and the internet as if nothing had happened? Or do I have to re-register with my ISP?
Also, will there be a conflct when the Windows XP program on my present hard drive meets the Windows XP program which is already installed in the new computer?

Are you sure you new pc has XP? Most come with Vista now.

You won't need to register with your ISP, but you may have to install the software you originally received on the installation disk. But you may not need to.

What do you want to transfer? Documents, photos and music should be easy, but programmes and software may be more of a problem. They imbed bits into the registry that are needed to run, making straightforward transfer difficult.

Do you mean "EVERYTHING" on the hard disk, and if so how do you plan to do that ?.

Can you tell us what steps you plan to take to move the stuff from your old PC to your new PC ?.

That way we may be able to help with what will work on the new PC and what wont.

You are quite right to query my careless EVERYTHING. I intend to use the Transfer Wizard and - having studied it properly for the first time - now realise that it transfers only files and settings. That's fine by me because I have disks for installing the programs I use.
My new computer is 'new' in the sense that it is still boxed and unused. But it was bought a few years ago when XP was the cry. I'm happy with that because I have heard bad reports of Vista. Two of my friends have uninstalled it and replaced it with XP. Mind you, they might be wrong; I wouldn't know. Thanks again.

Well, you seem to have everything in hand, and there should be no problems.
Your ISP settings won't be affected and you will continue to get email and internet as usual.
