It depends what "history" you mean.

Windows creates all sorts of files while it is working, and you may have them scattered all over the place on your hard disk.

There is no one magical way of clearing out this history.

The BEST way to clear out your history is to re-install Windows, but for some people that may be a bit drastic.

You can clear out your browsing history with options inside your browser.

You can "tidy up" your hard disk by defragmenting the disk (although this wont delete any files).

Windows has a number of "temp" (temporary) folders it uses, and you can probably delete files from them, but it does require knowing your way round Windows.

Over time all sorts of programs can be installed on your PC, many maybe you do not need, and this can leave all sorts of files scattered over your hard disk.

You could try uninstalling some of these programs, but most programs still leave odd files and folders all over the place.

No, to be blunt, the best option is a re-install of Windows.

If you do not want to do that then you are limited to a small tidy up here and a small tidy up there.
I notice you have put this in the internet section so maybe you mean deleting your browsing history.

Well Windows does not keep all your browsing history back three years. It deletes older files once they get past a certain date, I think 20 days is the default.

If you have IE7 then you can delete all your browsing files in one go by selecting Tools, Internet Options, Delete, then the Delete All button.

This may speed up your browsing a little, but probably not much.

What version of Windows are you on?
Download a free tool called Ccleaner from filehippo.com

This is very easy to use and it gets rid of all the useless stuff, temporary files, cookies, history etc.

Press the Analyze button, and wait while it scans your drive and then all these useless files appear. Then press the Run Cleaner button, and hay presto they are removed.
