Wireless box for cable broadband

I have just moved house, at the old address i had o2 wireless dial up broadband. At the new address i have virgin media cable broad band. The engineer who connected it told me that the old wireless box was incompatible with cable broadband and that i would have to order another one. Is the true? also what type of wireless router do i now need? does anyone have a link to a good value one 1st or 2nd hand ? I am using hardwire internet at the moment but want to be able to use the internet in different rooms

The engineer was right.

There are routers for phone lines (ADSL), and routers for Cable lines (called Cable Routers funnily enough).

The main difference is that a ADSL Router has the modem built in, a Cable router does not and you still need to use the Virgin supplied modem.

You can see on this PC World page here, that some routers are listed under ADSL and others under Cable.

I have Virgin broadband too. I use this router, which I find to be excellent. No problems, ever.
