Sorry it's very specific but does anybody know how I can convert a .mil file back to a standard .mid file. I have midi files most of which are .mid, but some are .mil and only open with a specific midi file program called midi-illustrator hence the .mil extension, I just want to change them back to .mid files. I might post in music section aswell. Many thanks.

I haven't converted the specific files you mentioned, I only really convert from .wav to mp3 and back again and I use a free down-load called switch although you can convert a lot of different types of file. It may be worth checking out.
the .mil extension is proprietary to the makers of Midi Illustrator. A .mil file contains visual as well as midi info.
As far as I can tell, there is only one program that can convert a mil file to a midi file, and that is Midi Illustrator itself!

Just load in the mil file, choose save as, and select midi as the file type.
ps, I tried it and it worked fine - loaded the mil file into a trial version of Midi Illustrator, saved it as a midi, then played it in Midi Maestro, no problem.

Thanks guys. Rojash, you are right, I didn't realise it was that simple. Cheers.
Actually, bond, you did me a favour. I use Midi Maestro for putting together backing tracks, but it's not much use for printing scores. I'd never heard of Midi Illustrator until you mentioned it, but have decided to buy it now!
