Are your speakers turned on ? Is the volume on your sound turned up ? Sometimes the simple things can be the problem or maybe you have to set it up . tools > .audio & video set up
Have you changed your settings, such as default settings for the head/mic?
You need to go to sound audio devices and change everything over.
If you can't do it, just reply and i will send you the details somehow.

Thanks for your answers. The thing is, I can make contact OK through SKYPE, it's just Messenger I'm having a problem with! Have checked the settings and everything seems fine.
You might need to set up some Port Forwarding on your home Router as I had to.
