public file sharing

im trying to set up my pc and laptop so i can share files between them using a wireless home network. im on the network and sharing center and trying to allow public folder sharing. i keep getting the message
"the RPC server is unavailible". what does this mean?

Firstly the laptop and PC need to be on the same workgroup - right click my computer icon>properties>computer name> click change and enter a name for the workgroup e.g. rabbit - do this for both computers then reboot.

Create folders to be shared - right click > properties > sharing>click on 'if you understand the security risks.....
then check just share this folder
Go back in and check share this folder on the network > OK

then drag any files into that folder

A hand will appear under the folder

Go into my computer and click on map network drive > browse > then you can access the other PC's shared folders

Repeat as necessary
