That depends on the size of the image.

If your 300dpi image is 1 inch square, it has 90,000 pixels in it.

Your 72dpi image may be 100 inches square, giving 51,840,000 dots.
Unusually, I can't make head or tail of fo3nix' answer.

Most commercial printers specify 300dpi which will give a print quality simialt to that found in magazines. 72 dpi is the accepted resolution of a Mac screen, whereas 96dpi is that of a Windows screen. The latter two are of course notional, in that the actual dpi will depend on the resolution and physical size of the screen.

In short, yes; an image of 300dpi will give a better print quality (for a given size) than one of 72 dpi, regardless of whether it's posted on the Internet or not.
