Every time I select IE on my programmes it comes up then immediately changes to Hotmail and I cannot seem to make it stay on IE. I have downloaded IE8 but don't know what I have done, it was ok a couple of days ago, but now I can't get the bit at the top that allows me to 'edit' and my favourites are coming up in a different place.

That makes sense, but can you talk me through it one step at a time - i.e. how do I go to IE Options and change my home page? Sorry to be thick.
First, go to the page that you want to be your home page
Next Click Tools/Internet Options
On the General tab. click the button "Use current"
Click OK

Ok I have now got my Yahoo mail as my homepage, but the top part of the screen is still not how it was before, there is no 'edit' button and the favourites bit has moved.
Right click on the bar in an empty space (same row as where your favourite and history is) and tick menu bar.
