I can view the actual transfer rates for the NICs on my gateway and on my main router here at work, they were both showing about 2.3mbs upload (about what it should be) while the speed test reported 6mbs!

Note that your broadband speed will vary depending on the day or time you run the test.

It is not a consistant figure.

You need to run the test lots of times, in the morning, in the evening, during the night, midweek and weekends, to get a good average.

Chuck,spodo's link not only over-estimates the upload speed,it also under-estimates the download by at least half on my PC.

Thanks to all. I now have tried 3 and they art quite consistent at approx 7 down and 1 - 1.2 up on an 8 Mb line
