In order to 'see' a website, your computer has to do a kind of digital handshake with any it. Both the site and your computer do a kind of 'hello, how do you do, ' and exchange information. People who make websites can choose which information they want to ask of their visitors computers, but it is very simple for webtraffic software to record your IP address, how long you were on each page, which country you are in, what time of day you accessed pages, and any downloads you made.
They can also get the name of the site you came to theirs from.
