I recently asked about replacing my Kaspersky and I went for the free AVG. Since installing it everything is taking ages to come up, which was one of the complaints I had read about it. Is there any way I can speed things up, or will I have to uninstall and go with something else? Its taking me about five times as long to do anything, even emails.

It also did the same to my laptop, i uninstalled it and installed Avast and havent looked back since.
Before you uninstall AVG, have a look at the settings. I think it may come preset with 'scan at startup' which takes ages and a lot of memory. Have a play with it first.
I had the free version without problems for many years and now have the paid version which has a lot of features not on the free one.
Vserion 9 onwards has to perform an initial indexing. Takes a couple of hours (well it did on mine) after that all is well. Just startup pc and leave it. You should see disc activity light flickering (slight disc access noise as well) while avg does it's thing. If you are techie minded, crtl alt del to show task manager....avg will be using quite a bit of memory.
I have the paid version now and no problems at all with it and like wildwood says there is more with it than the free version.
get rid and install avast
