Will we lose the internet if the phone bill isn't paid?

We're with BT for the phone and AOL with the internet, but we're considering having our phone cut off because we find the BT bills ridiculously overpriced considering we hardly ever use the phone. I'm wondering if we don't pay the bill, and BT cuts the phone off, will the internet be lost too?

Yes, you must have a phone line to get the internet. The exception is if you live in a Virgin cable area.

I would assume so, as your internet wil most likely be going through a BT line. I would advise you contact BT and explain rather than wait for them to contact you.

I'm with Virgin cable internet and don't have a landline at all. I use Skype.

I certainly use my landline for the vast majority of my calls, as do the majority of people I know, both young and old.

I don't even have a phone plugged into my phone line, I only have it for the internet.

Naked ADSL (the proper name for ADSL without having a phone contract) is not available in the UK, and guess who it was that decided there would not be enough call for ADSL services without paying for a phone contract..... Yep, BT!!

Just pay the bill and ask them to disconnect you. I can't believe you are wanting to get out of paying what you owe but still expect to keep your internet connection!

We've got the whole lot with BT, seems to work for us, they gave us a free home hub when I signed up for BT Broadband.

BT won't just cut you off and leave it at that they will chase you for the bill. It's not worth getting a CCJ or blacklist over surely?
