Trouble with pdf files

I have windows vista. I have Adobe Reader 9.1 and Adobe Air but I can`t open some pdf files. For example, I can get onto the direct gov site but when I try to download the pension credit form, it says `done` at the bottom of the screen, but the screen`s blank. I can open some pdf files but I get this problem, particularly with government sites (have the same problem with the EU site for example)
Any ideas?

It would help if you said what browser you are using.

I downloaded the form successfully in both Firefox 3.6 and IE9

remove and reinstall adobe reader.

I would normally suggest ditching adobe reader totally and going over to foxit reader as it's much more light weight (adobe has got bloated for what it does) but I've come across problems with foxit not working on direct.gov forms. If you have no joy with adobe then foxit reader may be worth a go.

The browser is Google. Thanks chuck bit I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe but that didn`t make any difference. I`ll try foxit.

Short-term fix:
If a pdf loads as blank, right-click on the task bar (at the foot of your screen) and access the Task Manager. Look for the process called Acrord32 and end it. Exit the Task Manager and then reload the pdf page. (It will magically appear).

Better fix:
Look for the setting, within your browser, which disables the Adobe Acrobat plug in. This appears to tell you what to do:

Then, when you click on a link to a pdf, it will no longer try to open within your browser's window but within a separate window. (You'll probably not even notice any real difference).

Alot of these government sites are set up for IE 7 or better but I would use Foxit Reader over Adobe any day.
