"Orange Internet" & "Weird" Connection
Evening all.
My dear Mother's internet connection has stopped working.
She is with Orange (or whoever they happen to be now?)
The wireless router seems to be working fine as does the line out (have tested with the phone directly plugged into it.)
There is this weird little white box "thingy". There is an ethernet cable running from this small white box to the router. The phone also runs into this. This box little white box then has a single phone line plug running out of it into the wall-socket.
I've no idea what this is and is a bit odd to describe. It seems like it is this strange little box which has broken in some way.
However, what other things should I do to diagnose the problem? Is there anything I can do to fix it? And who should I contact if I can't?
Thanks everyone,
Spare Ed

Doesn't need to be 'Orange' specifically, just google 'ADSL filter'.

Try it without the filter (Unplug the cable from any normal phone, then BT end goes straight into the phone socket, and the other end (RJ11) straight into live box)
It will drop the connection if anyone picks up a phone in the house or if the phone rings, but it will work otherwise and show if the filter is faulty or not.

I dug out a spare, or rather, on enquiry to a few friends it seems there is an absolute abundance of the odd little objects.
However, I returned to attempt to test the problem and the internet was working once again - so at this point I've left testing it until there is another problem.
Thanks for your help everyone, and thanks for the offer Naz.
