ds/ds lite repair

The hinge has broken on my son's ds lite. I have Googled it and there are a lot of firms that offer repairs. But some are saying I have to have the whole top lid replaced and then they talk about replacing it with one that is 'nearly the same'. He has a cobalt blue ds, a limited edition colour from America so I don't want one 'nearly the same'. However if I use Nintendo's repair service as they say they can just replace the hinges, are they likely to do any software updates at the same time?? I want it to come back without being fiddled with, just repaired. Has anyone got any experience of this or can recommend somewhere to repair just the hinges? Thanks.

I would think Nintendo would just replace the hinges.
You could always leave attached instructions not to touch anything else.
