Mobile delivery reports 2 questions

i'm thinking of changing my phone from T-mobile to O2.
On T M, i get delivery reports automatically if handset is set up for it. but a mate says o2 doesnt run that facility and u have to muck around pressing # & * keys etc to get a sort of message delivered report.
He has a Nokia, I have a Sony Ericsson, so my other question is do all handsets have this delivery report function, i'm looking at a Samsung Galaxy at present but can only find basic specs on websites. I do understand that delivery doesn't mean someone has read the message only that the phone is on to receive it.

It's got nothing to do with handsets. All phones are the same as far as delivery reports are concerned.

O2's technology doesn't directly support delivery codes, so you have to start your message with *0# (followed buy a space) for delivery notification.

(PS: If I couldn't manage to 'uninvent' mobile phones, which I'd really love to do, I'd settle for uninventing texting. I hate it and refuse to use it. If people can't be bothered to actually speak to me then I can't be bothered to reply to, or otherwise acknowledge, their texts)
