I seem to have acquired a virus which is asking me to pay via credit card details to MS Removal Tool to allow me to access the Internet.

ApplemobileDeviceService is infected...........it says.

I think it is a scam, but can't get rid off it.

Can't access the internet at all...this post is sent with another PC.

Any ideas?

Well, it sounds both real and a scam.

When you pay they simply unlock your computer. Not really a proper virus but a bugger to deal with.

You need to get rid of it somehow Squad as it shouldn't be there ! Anything arriving on PC unannounced is a Computer Pox and Scam and needs to be deleted.

Just to clarify, paying and providing ANY payment details at all would probably be the worst thing you could think of doing. You should mind paying, because whoever made this malware has no right to get you to pay for anything and is attempting to scam you of your money. Would you mind paying a man to move out of the way of your front door so you could get out of your house? Who cares if he moves when you pay him, he shouldn't be there and there won't be anything stopping him from coming back.

My dinner arrived as I was looking it up and I hastily posted that link. I hadn't checked it or anything but as I said,google it and something is bound to be out there. If you do have proper anti virus anywhere, maybe try contacting them for advice.

My mother in law got this. The computer had to go off to some geeks at the sister in law's boyfriends computer company.

I think the crims had got a programme into the start up, so that it always started before the security software, and locked the computer up.

Can you start in safe mode?
Try that before you do anything.

Do NOT pay them or give them any information whatsoever.

If you can't start in safe mode, right click anywhere on the bottom of the screen and click Task Manager. Click the applications tab and see what is running. If you see anything you don't recognise end it, and then run your security software.
