Asking out of interest only, given the development of all the various types of flat screen display technologies, does anyone know if Sony or anyone else is still doing anything with the beam-index CRT concept?
I have looked in Wikipedia but can't see anything about current situation.

Even checking through google for recent/new updates, there doesn't seem to have been much done for the past few years.

I'd say it went past a concept though, Marconis were putting them in military planes in the 80s

Chuck, that is the application in which I first became aware of them. Not in that scene any more, just wondered if the idea had been superseded by newer technologies.

Thanks for the input, obviously some are still in use. Room would not be so much of a problem in that aircraft.

You'll tend to find that the equipment which has this still installed will be "hardened" for use in NBC affected areas, hence it would be in older machinery. As per the normal military usage of equipment - If it's not broke don't change it...!
