I have a Panasonic TH-P50V20A plasma TV and would like to record HD programmes to an external hard drive. Panasonic's website recommends a Buffalo Drivestation HD-CEU2-A3 Series HDD but this seems to be a discontinued line and not available.
Can I use any HDD or do I have to get a certain brand with certain characteristics?
Thanks in advance.

There is nothing special about that external drive, it's a standard 3.5inch 7200RPM based drive.

I'd stay away from 2.5 external hard drives because they tend to be slower but any 3.5inch, USB2.0 external drive with a spindle speed of 7200RPM or above will do.
