firstly - are u sure its a 2.8 ?

also,my motherboard has a switch that you have to flick to allow the cpu to run at its correct speed.is yours similar ? find your m'board details and visit the manufacturers website

I agree with mattk, some motherboards have jumpers or a bank of switches that have to be configured to recognise faster processors.

Have you installed this CPU as an upgrade and if so are you sure it is supported by the motherboard. The AMD XP2800 has a FSB of 333Mhz and therefore needs to be run at a 166 clock speed. Not all older mobos will support this. How are you setting the clock speed and clock ratio?

sorry dudes its an athlon xp3000+

so the cpu definitely has the capabilities.

find your m'boards part/serial no. and manufacturer and visit their site to make sure the mb can handle a chip of this speed

what wattage power supply do u have if it is two stressed then there will be problems
how about checking to make sure the precessor isnt getting too hot?? adequate vetillation?? heat ink fitted onto processor using the right amount?? is it paste or was it mounted using the new self adhesive pad?? all these will have a big part in this too guys!
