I think this happens in web based emails as I get mine on laptop and desktop....I expect the experts will soon answer for you anyway, but just wanted to say of my experience.
This is exactly how my partner and I run e-mail with the same address on 2 laptops. It works fine except his seems to be the dominant one (in that very very occasionally he will get an e-mail that doesn't also arrive at mine). We can't see each other's sent items though.
My emails arrive simultaneously on all my desktops, laptops and smart phone that are turned on.
I use GMail, a web based service, but I have GMail set to fetch all my non-web based emails too. It works very well.
Yes, this works on my work desktop, laptop and phone, they all come through together.

It's my daughter's setup she has MS Outlook & a BT email address & she requires all her emails to be received by laptop & desktop.Ron.
We both use MS Outlook Ron. As far as I can remember we each set it up independendently but using the same e-mail address and password.
If your daughter is using 'POP3' mail, the default setting on Outlook is for mail to be deleted from the server as soon as one computer accesses it. Your daughter will need to change the setting, so that the mail is held on the server for a sufficient length of time to allow the other computer to also collect it.

These instructions are actually for Outlook Express but Outlook usually does things the same way:
Open Outlook
Click Tools, Accounts, Mail
Click on the name of the mail account, then on Properties and Advanced.
In the 'Delivery' field place a tick alongside 'Leave a copy of message on server'
Choose a suitable time interval.
Click Apply, OK and Close.
Repeat on the other computer.
