Using a Laptop outside the home

Hi, I took my laptop to my friend's house and it wouldn't work, said Server Not Found. I realise this is because it is programmed to work off my BT line. How can I use my laptop other than at home ? There were no prompts asking me to log in or use another code .. sorry I am not technical so easy answers please ! And if I have to change a code, do I have to change it back when I get home or will it work OK ? I have Windows 7.

the computer will remember your home details and automatically connect when ever in range, it will also remember any other connections you setup and connect to them when in range.
