other than the little silver mesh at the top of most mobile phones, what areas affect the sound...

i have a problem with my silicone phone cover causing echos to other people, so want to cut some holes in it to see if it solves the problem...but where should i cut?

is there another part of the phone that needs to be kept clear in order for the sound to be better?
all the connections and buttons are clear, except for the side ones.

its a blackberry curve 8900

yep sure do.

Look at the bottom edge of the phone, there's a little pin hole, that's where the mic is.
