I've just bought my first computer - a Dell laptop - and I've been recommended BT broadband. Is this good advice?

Im with BT - Put it this way. I was on the 1Mb service and they upgraded to 2Mb free of charge for 28 a month. I have had it for ages and had no problems with it at all. The download limit a month is excellent, too. 30Gb month = 1Gb a day! There are some companines that give u 1Gb a MONTH. Iv been with quite a few ISP's over the years, and in my opinion, BT are the best.

Have a look here for the latest deals :

I'm with Virgin though thinking of changing as they aren't offering a 1Mb deal at all.

try wanadoo.  I'm paying 17.99 per month for a 1Mb connection, and I've had no problems at all.  That's 10 per month less than Potatoman is paying, for the same connection.
No, i pay 28 for a 2Mb connection. Twice as fast as the 1Mb with 30Gb limit.

Amongst many others, Tiscali are offering 1Mbps BroadBand at 15.99 per month. They offer 2Mbps BroadBand at 19.99 (8 less than Potatoman's ISP) but they have a monthly useage limit of 15Gb.

For 30Gb with Wanadoo, it's also 27.99.

AOL's 2Mbps BroadBand costs 29.99 but, in fairness, you do get quite a bit more for your money.

I use NTL 1.5mb Broadband and it costs me 37.99 a month. This may be expensive compared to the others, but I download about 50 Gig per month.I have heard that NTL are going to introduce a monthly downloadlimit, but it has not happened to me yet. When it does, I will change providers.
I have Bulldog 2MB with no limit at 40 per month never had a problem with them.  You need a BT line for it.

Bulldog are currently offering 4Mb broadband with no download limit for only 19.50 per month.
