Saving old emails to desktop folder

I use yahoo mail and have a lot of old emails realting to job applicaitions I would like to keep or future reference. I am winding down my yahoo mail account so wondered if there is a way of keeping a copy of the emails on my computer desktop folder? I tried to drag and drop them from my email folder to 'my computer' designated folder but didnt work. Is this possible?

have you got outlook express? forward them to there and then export them in a PST file or get yourself a hotmail account and forward the emails there.

1: Get Mozilla Thunderbird which is free
2: Setup Thunderbird to get your Yahoo account emails
3: Go back to Yahoo & put all the emails you want to keep in the Yahoo inbox
4: Open thunderbird and it will download all the emails from the Yahoo inbox
5: Then you can save them anywhere you like
