or do you leave it plugged in? had a few issue's with it lately but it seems to have been sorted now. just wondering if the constant unplugging then rebooting is doing it any harm?

Can we have a second opionion on this, as to whether we are damaging our modems? I should hope we are not, as I am trying to help save the country £800 million per year in wasted electricity. This is how much is lost through standby and leaving things on charge.
"If that's the router what's a modem"
There is some difference here between the "proper" name for things and the consumer name for things...
if I look at the box you have then the consumer name for it a router but from a network engineers point of view it's actually 3 devices in 1 box... a modem (which connects to the internet), a router (which sends the traffic to the correct place) and a switch (which lets you plug more than one thing in at a time)... but the combined name for them in a household environment is just a router.
TBH... I've pretty much given up trying to explain it to most people that don't have a solid grasp of networking because its a) not imprtant and b) too confusing. but basically... a modem is for connecting one computer, a router is for connecting more than one.
