Is there an adaptor for an XD card to go in an SD reader?
5 Answers
Further to yesterday's question, the solution to my new printer is to transfer the photos to an SD card so I can print photos away from the computer. I've looked online and seen no adaptors to allow an XD card to go in an SD slot, has anyone ever seen one?

...the printer only has memory card slots, not a USB socket.

I've learnt a lot over this fiasco- both what a memory stick is (I assumed it was a term for a flash drive but no) and also learnt a printer can have what looks like a USB input but has two little drops by it, which makes it a Pictbridge input only (??). I also learnt what Kodak and others call a USB port is not, but a port to connect the item to your computer on IT'S USB port. Major grammar corruption there, as a USB port is a port to plug your USB devices in as everyone knows. I've seen an SD to XD converter (who on earth would need that?) so why can't they do the other way round as it would mean all Olympus users (there must be thousands) can plug their cards straight into their printers. Mine lives in another room as is just for printing photos and making a rare photocopy, my normal printer and scanner are very old, small, and sit on a shelf and desk by the computer, there is no room for a photo printer as well. Never mind, if I had the means I'd build one myself.
Unfortunately, it is common usage that has corrupted the terms which have industry standards as their basis. The port on the Kodak printer is correctly termed USB, however it is for the Type B (square) plug rather than the Type A (rectangular) plug. Pictbridge usually makes use of a USB Type A connection but tends to require a camera to be attached (to select the pictures to send to the printer) rather than any other type of USB device.
You have also run up against proprietary formats for flash memory cards. Whereas SD is a universal format, XD is exclusive (and now obsolete!) to Olympus and Fuji products just as Memory Stick is exclusive to Sony products.
