Computer Running Slow
8 Answers
Have a MSI CR610 series (model No MS - 184) running windows 7 & Norton security. During a recent Windows 7 service pack 1 install, machine was accidently turned off - DOH!!! M/c seems to have sorted it self out, but is noticably slower and unresponsive.
What to next restore to before service pack was installed, run a defrag or something else.
TIA
Tony

Start
Right-click Computer
Select Properties
Check the Windows Edition Section.
If it's installed, uninstall it: http://windows.micros.../uninstallwindows7sp1
Uninstall Norton
Go to Windows Update and get SP1
After SP1 is installed, re-install Norton

After SP1 is installed, re-install Norton
Before you install SP1 make sure you run troubleshooting and run a repair on your already installed updates which will make the installation easier. I would not use Norton as this is one of the causes why your computer is running slow it is a resource hogger. Use Avast Free Antivirus and you will see a huge improvement in speed.
As Chuck says, there's nowt wrong with the current versions of Norton, otherwise I wouldn't have recommended re-installing it, but a number of AV packages can be problematic when installing SP1, and, as this installation has gone wrong (for other reasons), I figure there is a better chance of rectifying things if any potential conflicts are removed.
Hi rojash, Chuck and galeck,
Thanks for your advice and help - but need more - lol
Can't get SP1 update to download before installation. Have got as far as 96% download at best today, have tried several times. Norton removed, but get error code 802000010, which is I believe a Windows code for stopping download - is there a windows security to be disabled as well?
It can't be as I'm using a dongle on the middle, (tied up now) of a canal, as F1 qualifying streamed live with no probs.
Galek - your advice about Norton is noted, but when I new more about computers (circa 1985 IBM desktops running DOS with custom software on an ethernet network ) I always looked at last change to system and looked there for fault.
Unfortunatey that all changed with Mr Gates - making an interface that used more computer power than the programme it was running lol - my little rant over.
Anyway any ideas?
Thanks in advance again
Tony
