If the .Doc files are all over your computer then you ought to try and save them in the same folder or at least in a series of suitably classified folders then you could look through them in Windows Explorer without having to search for them.
I bet your shoes are all stored in the same place?????????

"All word documents" are not the same as "all file types".
Searching for *.* would get you all file types, but you may be overwhelmed by non MS Word document files.
*.doc will get all .doc file exensions, whcih hopefully will be MS Word document files and you don't have any that are saved with a different extension.
I'm never 100% sure if the semicolon actually works in a search, but you could try looking for "*.doc ; *.xml ; *.mht ; *.mhtml ; *.htm ; *.html ; *.dot ; *.rtf ; *.txt ; *.docx ; *.docm ; *.wps"

thanks trim and OG
...wak...no they arent in the same place, they are wherever i leave them...
as for your comment on folders...that is a rather simplistic view, and rather unhelpful and impractical...
i have folders relating to each project i do and have every document, pic or whatever relating to each project, in its own folder...if i had to go to all different folders when working on a project things would become complicated and messy...

Joko, ". . . i have word docs all over my comp. . " intially suggests to me a novice lack of understanding of files and folders, therefore you got a suitable reply.
Maybe if you had been a little more explicit in your problem/question then maybe you might have received a more suitable response.
People shouldn't have to view a writers avatar every time before trying to help just to get an idea of their history/background or capability.

wak...then you shouldn't jump to conclusions, and next just answer the question asked rather than try to offer haughty advice.
and even if i was a novice - your answer gave no helpful or practical advice anyway!
how is basically telling me to 'tidy up' and using excessive question marks answering my very simple question?
and in fact your judgement of me was exactly what i thought about you and your simplistic response...
i have been using computers since about 1997...i have built my own and have a city and guilds in web design and animation...so hardly a novice.
i asked all i needed to know...a simple question needing a simple answer - such as the one trimeresurus gave....i didnt need to be explicit in detail, nor did you need to research me to enable you to give the pointless answer you gave...

Joko, and I used my first computer in the early 1980's, a Sinclair Spectrum, and wrote programs in machine code at that time.
If you are such a smart Ar5e with your City and Guilds how come you didn't know how to use the simple, standard search facility as suggested by Trimeresurus??????????? (*.doc)
I still think you ought to be a bit more explicit with your questions then people wouldn't have to jump to conclusions.
As this thread is leading nowhere now, Subject Closed.

I didnt say i was a smartar5e ( again jumping to conclusions) i said i wasnt a novice.
i didnt know how to search because i have never needed to use it before...so why would i?
had i explained fully why i needed to know, what exactly would you have said differently? what possible difference does it make to answer?
your response was not in the least helpful...you were the one being a smartar5e and condescending by just telling me to tidy up... i mean really, did you think that was answering my query?
how in the world did you imagine that would solve my problem.
trim did not need my whole back history to give me the simple answer i requested, so why do you?
