orange notifier

have mentioned this before but can't remember asking a specific question about it. - on the bottom of the screen is a blue line which shows what programmes are running - why do they sometimes change to orange?
obviously it is trying to tell me something but can't figure out what. thank you -

if a programme is running or needs your attention i.e: to install something or read a message like skype
if u click on it it will open new window which you can minimize when you're done

emu777 - I get that it needs my attention (am a technophobe big time!!!!!!)
but when I click on the notifier it just opens that particular programme and there's nothing to say to Mrs Idiot do this that or the other. For example my email notifier is now orange but there are no new messages. Could it be that it is trying to tell me to update something?

hi rsvp! i'm not sure what it is ..normally window flashes orange when something is happening, like u said an incoming message or prog. requires update..hmm! did it go away after u had clicked on it? (even though u don't know the reason why!)

yes emu that's what so strange - I click on the programme and it's perfectly normal.

hi rsvp all i can say -in my limited knowledge!- is that something is happening with the programme that's flashing orange- an update/notification. Annoying when u don't know what it is! Could you have got junk mail? Or is your email prog. on a time lapse and needs to be refreshed to stay open? I'm not sure but it's gone now you've clicked on it so I'd just leave it..u haven't interfered with the prog in any way just by clicking on it :)
