My daughter keeps installing Messanger 7.0 as a chat room - and it keeps messing up the system - also the Sims expansion pack does the same - is there any safe way of using these?

What do you mean by "messing up the system"? Does the whole thing stop working completely? If you could describe the nature of the problem, it would assist in finding a solution. The new version of Messenger hasn't caused me any trouble (so far).

well after a while it freezes everything and even when I reboot it's msn 7.0 which pops up and freezes again before I start - I have finally managed to uninstall it but she really wants it up and running - even had a problem uninstalling it, please bear in mind that I am a wrinkly and not much use at technology - so easy advise please and thank you.

Hmmm it's funny you say that i used to have messenger on my PC at home and our PC went awol we had to reinstall everything though we did leave it for 3 months as it was such a palaver! I don't bother with it now as im never in to go on it now. Except at work and i can't get it here probably a good job i could knacker the country up for electric and gas knowing my luck

Hmm, seems odd. Other than the usual suspects (virus scan, adware/spyware scan) I can't really advise further on this. If your daughter wants to use Messenger simply to chat, she could just use the WebMessenger:

http://webmessenger.msn.com/
does it leave an error message if it does the goto microsoft web site and type in error
