Brennan CD storage

But I have thought about it. I keep seeing the adverts. They look good. Are Brennan the only company making things like that, I wonder?

The home page of that site refers to the Sony Gigajuke as a competitor. I had not heard of that item. It seems that Brennan only sell on line.

Isn't it just a rather mediocre mp3 player with a very old fashioned looking display?

The spec is nothing special, i don't see how they justify the extra large price tag.

I have also 'thought about it' but not seriously. I feel I would need to speak to someone who has one or see one working in real life.
It does seem a bit pricey but it does have a 60W amp and remote control so that will account for some of it.

Personally I'd get a 160GB iPod Classic for half the price of the Brennan... plug it in to my home system and also have the option of portability...

But doesn't an iPod compress the file size of each track to about one eleventh of the size it was on the original CD?

So you have to dump a lot of the stored information, and so you're not getting CD quality reproduction.

Or is that wrong?

And does the Brennan do the same????

Like a lot of people I have seen the ads for a Brennan.

It is different from an Ipod and does seem to have things in its favour not least the ability to filter and access music quickly but before I jump Iwould like to hear what users really think and ideally to use one. I suspect that they are overpriced for what you get.

That is one thing I would need to know before considering purchase. The fact that it has a CD drive built in is good. You don't appear to have (m)any connections to make to get it to work.

I did say 'personally'. Running an ipod with tracks at 256Kbps or 320Kbps through a decent home system has always been good enough for me sound quality-wise... portability and price are more important to me...

That's what MP3 is. All these machines use compression. Which is why having a good cd player and record deck and plenty of cd's and vinyl is preferable for your favourite music.

I think for something like this personal choice will probably be a major factor. Personally I am unlikely to get one without discussing it with at least one person who has one. Since they are not in the shops handling one is unlikely in the near future.

Anything that requires you to store your audio file in .mp3 format is using compression to get the small file sizes. CDs use .wav I believe, and so the files are larger.
