LENOVO and Browsers

Hi, I have a Lenovo Ideapad S10-2. I cannot start IE(8) and have had trouble with Firefox. Both will run (if set as default) when I click a link (e.g.in an email).

Safari is a little better and Chrome seems even better but all crash after a using for a short time. I see in taskmanager that IEXPLORE.EXE seems to be running several times, even though I have not asked for it. I bought it used some time ago; I didn't use any internet applications until recently...all problems seem net related. Also it seems to try to use "bearshare" whatever I do, even though I uninstalled it. The connection is fine (outlook express runs and sends/retrieves OK). Anyone have any ideas hoe I can get to a simple set up with just a browser, email please?
