If you have had your Belkin modem/router for a few years then it's probably worth switching to the new D-Link which will have the latest comms software and firmware for higher speed transmissions on ADSL and wireless. It will be a standard modem/router so will continue to work if you change ISP's. Store the old one if you are still concerned. The benefits to the ISP ids that they have a known device if they nerd to troubleshoot a problem. The ISP doesn't need a special modem/router to monitor and control your web browsing, they can and do monitor and control your usage from their data centres whatever device you are using
