Folder problem making me mad

I still have a folder on my desktop that won't let me do anything with it. I have run disk check (as suggestd by AB's ChuckF) and it found no problems. I have tried using safe mode and command prompt, but nothing will budge it. Anything I try to do I just get the message 'This is no longer located in C:\users\desktop. Verify the item's location and try again.' Days of googling has not helped. I am getting to my wits end. I could ignore it, but i want to know why I can't delete it. Any help or advice would be appreciated. thanks.

When you rightclick on the folder and select properties is the folder path the same? If I look at one of mine it says c:\users\john\desktop.

Do you have any other users on your pc? Is the folder listed as 'read only'?

The location of the folder in properties is the same as where it is. one other user. the read only-box is filled in, but it won't let me make any changes.
It's possible that one or more of the files in the folder have illegal names. (e.g. a name that starts or ends with a space, or that includes reserved name such as lpt1).
