Downloading a programme.

When I download a programme, the download panel appears but remains blank.
I then have to go into 'My Documents' and find a folder called 'Downloads', to find the programme download panel and then click on 'Run' before it will start the download process.
Is there a quicker way please, and will it be ok to send all the unwanted downloads remaining in this 'My documents folder', to the 'Recycle Bin'?

You can specify where you want to put your 'downloads'. I put mine in a download folder on the desk top, which once it's finished downloading is much quicker to find, than hunting through the 'My Documents' folder. Once you've installed the program you can remove it to the recycle bin.
In Firefox select 'Tools/Options/General' about halfway down you will see the default option for your downloads, you can alter this by browsing to where you want to save your downloads and click 'OK'
In IE it's Tools/Download manager I think.

You seem to be confusing downloading and running.
I seem to remember that you're using Firefox. When Firefox downloads a file it shows a progress box. While the download is taking place you can right-click it to locate the file. Unfortunately, if it's a small download, the progress box is emptied before you have chance. There have been many complaints about this.
When you click 'run' you are not starting the download, you are installing the downloaded file.
Downloading in both Chrome and IE is superior, in that both offer you a list of all downloads along with options to locate and/or run/open the files even after the download is completed.
